- Abdominal Surgery prophylaxis
- Colorectal surgery prophylaxis
III. Mechanism
- Antibiotics in this group are Cephamycin derivatives

Antibiotic coverage spectrum
- Gram Positive activity (but less than Second Generation Broad-spectrum Cephalosporins such as Cefuroxime)
- Gram Negative coverage (similar to Third Generation Cephalosporins)
- Anaerobic coverage (e.g. Bacteroides)
IV. Dosing
- Adult
- Typical Dosing
- Give 1-2 grams IM or IV every 12 hours
- Surgical Prophylaxis
- Give 1 to 2 g IV 30 to 60 min before surgery (or for Cesarean Section, after Umbilical Cord clamped)
- Renal Dosing
- eGFR 10 to 30 ml/min: Give typical dose every 24 hours
- eGFR <10 ml/min: Give typical dose every 48 hours
- Typical Dosing
- Child (Not FDA approved)
- Give 40 to 80 mg/kg/day IV divided every 12 hours
