  1. Synthetic Anticholinergic, carboxylic acid derivative
  2. Selective Acetylcholine blockade of Muscarinic Receptors on Smooth Muscles
    1. Results in Smooth Muscle relaxation and antispasmodic activity
  3. Effects
    1. Relaxes gastrointestinal Smooth Muscle and decreases spasm
    2. Inhibits gastrointestinal motility
    3. Decreases gastric acid secretion
    4. Decreases Saliva and brochial secretions

IV. Dosing: Adult

  1. Start 20 mg orally four times daily as needed
  2. Increase to 40 mg orally four times daily as needed
    1. Typical effective dose (160 mg/day)

  1. Not FDA approved
