  1. Insomnia
    1. Short-term use only (up to 12 weeks)

IV. Dosing

  1. Adult: 1 to 2 mg orally at bedtime
  2. Elderly: 0.5 to 1 mg orally at bedtime

V. Safety

  1. Pregnancy Category X
  2. Avoid in Lactation
  3. Schedule IV Controlled Substance

VI. Pharmacokinetics

  1. Onset: 20 minutes
  2. Duration: 6-8 hours
  3. Half-Life: 10-24 hours
  4. Metabolites are minimally active

VII. Drug Interactions

  1. Strong CYP3A4 Inhibitors (e.g. Ketoconazole, Itraconazole)
    1. Avoid Estazolam with these agents
