- Patient lies prone on examining table
- Testing leg flexed to 90 degrees
- Compression Test
- Lean on patient's foot, applying pressure to heel
- Compresses tibia into femur
- Rotate tibia internally and externally on femur
- Lean on patient's foot, applying pressure to heel
- Distraction Test
- Kneel gently on back of patient's thigh to stabilize
- Apply traction to leg pulling tibia from femur
- Rotate tibia internally and externally
IV. Interpretation
- Positive Compression Test suggests Meniscal Injury
- Pain with compression test (not with distraction)
- Positive Distraction Test suggests ligament injury
- Knee Pain with compression and distraction test
