III. Mechanism

  1. Compare the 2 femur lengths

IV. Preparation: Sit-up starting position

  1. Infant or child supine
  2. Hips and knees flexed with feet flat on examining table

V. Technique

  1. Observe for inequality of knee height
  2. Affected side will be lower than the normal side

VI. Findings

  1. False Negatives
    1. Bilateral hip disclocation (20% of cases)
  2. Inequality causes
    1. Congenital Hip Dislocation
    2. Femoral shortening
