  1. See Salicylate
  2. Difluorophenyl derivate of salicylic acid
  3. Unlike other Salicylates, Diflunisal is not metabolized to salicylic acid
    1. Results in a longer Half-Life than for other Salicylates
  4. As with other Salicylates and NSAIDs, has antipyretic, Analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties
    1. Blocks cyclooxygenase (COX, esp. COX1)
    2. Inhibits conversion of Arachidonic Acid to Prostaglandin precursors
    3. Decreasing Prostaglanding levels results in decreased pain, inflammation and fever

V. Dosing

  1. Diflunisal 250 to 500 mg orally every 8 to 12 hours
  2. Maximum: 1500 mg/day
