IV. Diagnosis: DSM IV Criteria
- Depressed mood for most of day
- Children: One year duration
- Adult: Two year duration
- Symptoms associated with depression (2 or more)
- Poor appetite or Overeating
- Insomnia or Hypersomnia
- Low energy or Fatigue
- Low self esteem
- Poor concentration or difficulty making decisions
- Feelings of hopelessness
- No symptom-free period >2 months (in 2 year period)
- No Major Depression during 2 year period
- No prior history of mania or Hypomania
- Symptoms not exclusively tied to chronic Psychosis
- No secondary cause for symptoms
- No concurrent Substance Abuse
- No general medical condition responsible for symptoms
- Symptoms result in impaired functioning or distress
