  2. Replaced with Urine Protein to Creatinine Ratio

III. Efficacy

  1. Highly sensitive for Urine Protein
  2. Detects light chain Proteins

IV. Technique

  1. Urine mixed with 20% Sulfosalicylic Acid (SSA)
  2. Variation in results may be as much as 20%
  3. Urine turbidity measured with photometer (increased turbidity with precipitated Protein)
    1. Turbidity reported as trace to 4+

V. Interpretation: Positive Test

VI. Interpretation: False Positive causes

  1. Radiographic contrast agents (in last 3 days)
  2. Tolbutamide
  3. Penicillins
  4. Sulfisoxazole

VII. Interpretation: Negative Test

  1. False Proteinuria
  2. Renal Tubules not reabsorbing
