II. Indications

  1. Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca (Sjogren's Syndrome)

III. Mechanism

  1. Cyclosporine is a Calcineurin Inhibitor with Immunosuppression and antiinflammatory properties (esp. inhibits T-Helper Cells)
  2. Improves tear production in autoimmune disorders (esp. Sjogren's Syndrome)

IV. Medications

  1. Restasis 0.05% emulsion (preferred as generic option, $200/month)
  2. Other non-generic options (at $500-$800 per month)
    1. Cequa 0.09% solution
    2. Veyve 0.1% solution

V. Dosing

  1. Use 1 drop in each eye every 12 hours
  2. Remove contacts before instilling drops (and wait 15 min before reinserting)
  3. Separate from other ophthalmic topicals by at least 15 minutes
