II. Complications

  1. Renal Failure
    1. Primary disease that resulted in original Renal Failure may still be active and result in recurrent Renal Failure
    2. Even small changes (esp. children) can be significant (consult transplant team)
  2. Urinary Tract Infections
    1. Common in both men and women
    2. Admit all suspected Pyelonephritis cases on IV Antibiotics
  3. Nephrotoxicity
    1. Avoid all Nephrotoxins
    2. Immunosuppressants (esp. Calcineurin Inhibitors) are nephrototoxic
      1. Compounded by Drug Interactions (review new medications with pharmacist or transplant team)
  4. Transplant Rejection
    1. Consult transplant team before initiating Corticosteroids
