II. Criteria

  1. Score 0.5: Acute Onset symptoms with peak on Day 1
  2. Score 1.0: Joint Erythema
  3. Score 1.5: Hypertension or cardiovascular disease
  4. Score 2.0: Male gender
  5. Score 2.0: Prior episode of Arthritis or Joint Pain
  6. Score 2.5: First metatarsophalangeal joint (MCP joint) involvement
  7. Score 3.5: Serum Uric Acid >5.8 mg/dl (0.35 mmol/L)

III. Interpretation: Based on Total Score from Criteria (0 to 13 points possible)

  1. High Risk (Total >= 8)
    1. Consistent with Gouty Arthritis diagnosis
  2. Intermediate Risk (Total 4.5 to 7.5)
    1. Seek additional clinical data (e.g. Joint Aspiration and polarized light microscopy)
  3. Low Risk (Total <= 4)
    1. Consider alternative diagnosis
