II. Pathophysiology

  1. Mass of hair, fibers, and other indigestible materials
  2. Found in Stomach or Intestine
  3. Higher risk with Gastroparesis or Delayed Gastric Emptying

III. Symptoms

  1. Nausea or Vomiting
  2. Constipation alternating with Diarrhea
  3. Epigastric Pain and bloating

IV. Signs

  1. Palpable upper abdominal mass

V. Diagnosis

  1. Upper GI
    1. Displacement of barium by mass
    2. May show radiopaque materials in Bezoar
  2. Endoscopy (EGD)
    1. Mass of hair, vegetable fibers, seeds and materials
