- Fluoride inhibits tooth demineralization and promotes remineralization
- Fluoride inhibits plaque Bacteria
IV. Precautions
- Do not use Topical Fluoride in children under age 6 years

- Rinse, brush or apply for 1 minute and then spit out
- Do not eat or drink for 30 minutes after using

- Neutral Sodium Fluoride (e.g. Prevident, ACT, Dentagel, SF 5000 plus)
- Most common formulation used
- Does not etch of stain restorations or white fillings
- Prevident Rinse weekly (prescription)
- ACT Rinse daily (OTC)
- Dentagel
- Applied as thin ribbon with ToothBrush or mouth tray daily at bedtime after brushing
- SF 5000 Plus
- Use in place of regular toothpaste at bedtime
- Most common formulation used
- Acidulated Phosphate Fluoride (e.g. Phos-Flur)
- Prevents white demineralization areas (e.g. braces)
- Stannous Fluoride (e.g. Crest Pro-Health Toothpaste, Gel-Kam)
- Offers protection against tooth sensitivity and Gingivitis
- Risk of tooth staining
