- Suspected Mononucleosis with negative heterophile tests
- Mononucleosis-Like Syndrome
III. Physiology
- IgM Viral Capsid Antigen (xIgM VCA or EBV IgM)
- Present at onset of symptoms
- Persist for 4-8 weeks after onset
- IgG Viral Capsid Antigen (xIgG VCA or EBV IgG)
- Present early in symptom course
- Persist life long
- Epstein-Barr Virus Nuclear Antibody (xEBNA)
- Suggests past infection
- Not present until 6-8 weeks after symptom onset
IV. Interpretation
- Acute phase antibodies: xEA, xIgM VCA
- Convalescent Antibody: xIgG VCA
- Recovered State: xIgG VCA, xEBNA
