II. Pathophysiology
- Infected cystic blood filled spaces in hepatic lobules
- Complication of Bacillary Angiomatosis caused by Bartonella Henselae (or B. quintana)
- Occurs in AIDS (CD4 Count <100 cells/mm3) or other Immunocompromised patients
III. Symptoms
- Anorexia
- Nausea
- Abdominal Pain
- Fever
- Weight loss
- Vascular skin lesions
- Distinguish from Kaposi's Sarcoma
- Disseminated infection (complicated cases)
- May infect bone, mucosa, CNS or Heart Valves (endocarditis)
IV. Labs
- Bartonella Henselae (or B. quintana) Antibody titer increases
V. Imaging
- Right upper quadrant Ultrasound
- Hepatic Cystic lesions (or splenic lesions)
- Distinguish from Liver Abscess
