- Type 1: Acute Renal Failure due to an acute decrease in Cardiac Function (e.g. Cardiogenic Shock)
- Type 2: Chronic Renal Failure due to chronic cardiac dysfunction (e.g. chronic CHF)
- Type 3: Acute Renal Failure results in acute decreased Cardiac Function (e.g. Acute Kidney Injury)
- Type 4: Chronic Renal Failure results in chronic cardiac dysfunction (e.g. Chronic Kidney Disease)
- Type 5: Systemic disease results in both Chronic Kidney Disease and chronic cardiac dysfunction (e.g. Diabetes Mellitus)
