- Prepubertal Cryptorchidism (age 4 to 9 years, may induce testicular descent)

III. Contraindications
- Precocious Puberty
- Prostate Cancer (or other androgen dependent cancers)
- Primary ovarian failure
- Uncontrolled Thyroid or adrenal dysfunction
- Pituitary Lesions
IV. Mechanism

Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG)
- Prevents corpus luteum from involuting during pregnancy
- Allows for continued increase of Estrogen and Progesterone
- Stimulates Testosterone production in the male fetus Testes
- Prevents corpus luteum from involuting during pregnancy
- HCG is a GlycoproteinHormone with subunits a and b
- Beta subunit (bHCG) is unique to HCG
- HCG shares the same alpha subunit with other Hormones

- Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG, Pregnyl, Novarel)
- Purified HCG extract from the urine of pregnant women
- Available in vials of 10,000 USP units of HCG that require reconstitution
- Administered IM
- Choriogonadotropin Alfa (Recombinant HCG, Ovidrel)
- Recombinant HCG product
- Available in a preFilled Syringe containing 250 mcg
- Administered subcutaneously

- Typically dosed after an initial 9-12 day course of Recombinant Follicle Stimulating Hormone

- Ovarian Hyperstimulation
- Fluid third spacing (Ascites, Pleural Effusion, edema)
- Ruptured Ovarian Cyst
- Ovarian Torsion
- Multiple Gestation
- Arterial Thromboembolism
- Anaphylaxis (urine-derived HCG)
- Irritability
- Headache
- Gynecomastia
VIII. Safety
- Unknown safety in Lactation
- Contraindicated in pregnancy
- Associated with congenital abnormalities when used AFTER pregnancy is established
- No known increased risk of congenital abnormalities when used to induce Ovulation for Infertility
