II. Physiology
- Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) is a glyoprotein secreted by Basophil cells in the anterior Pituitary Gland
- Stimulation (releasing factors)
- Hypothalamic Gonadotrophic Releasing Hormone (GnRH)
- Inhibition (negative feedback loop to Hypothalamus and Pituitary Gland)
- Testosterone (Males)
- Estrogen
- Progesterone
- Inhibin
- Produced by corpus luteum in women
- Produced by spermatogenesis in men
- Stimulation (releasing factors)
- Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) effects in women
- Stimulates ovarian follicle growth
- Ovarian follicle then secretes Estradiol
- Functions in concert with LH which stimulates ovarian follicles to ovulate and mature into a corpus luteum
- Corpus luteum in turn secretes Estrogen and Progesterone
- Stimulates ovarian follicle growth
- Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) effects in men
- Stimulates spermatogenesis and sperm maturation within Sertoli Cells
- Functions in concert with LH which stimulates Leydig Cells within Testes to produce Testosterone
