- Suspected Drug Abuse or Drug Dependence
- Positive Single-Question Drug Abuse Screening Test (DAS-1)
III. Criteria: Ten yes-or-no questions
- Have you used drugs other than those required for medical reasons?
- Do you use more than one drug at a time?
- Are you always able to stop using drugs when you want to?
- Have you ever had blackouts or flashbacks as a result of drug use?
- Do you feel bad or guilty about your drug use?
- Do your spouse (or parents) ever complain about your involvement with drugs?
- Have you neglected your family because of your use of drugs?
- Have you engaged in illegal activities to obtain drugs?
- Have you ever experienced withdrawal symptoms (felt sick) when you stopped taking drugs?
- Have you had medical problems as a result of your drug use (e.g. Memory Loss, hepatitis, Convulsions or bleeding)?
IV. Scoring
- Assign 1 point for a "NO" answer to the third question ("...able to stop using drugs")
- Assign 1 point for all other "YES" answers
V. Interpretation
- Score: 0
- Low risk
- Score 1-3
- Moderate risk
- Score >3
- Substance Abuse or dependence

- Test Sensitivity: 90-100%
- Test Specificity: 77%
