- Naked (non-enveloped) icosahedral capsid
III. Types

Human Papillomavirus (HPV)
- HPV causes warts, Cervical Cancer and Anal Cancer
- Polyomavirus (2 viruses named with the initials of the first identified affected patients)
- BK Polyomavirus
- Infects >90% of children who remain asymptomatic
- Reactivated in Immunocompromised patients, with secondary specific complications
- Renal Transplant (nephritis, ureteral stenosis)
- Bone Marrow Transplant (hemorrhagic cystitis)
- JC Polyomavirus
- Majority of adults have been exposed during their lifetime to JC Virus (Antibody to JC Virus in >80%)
- Asymptomatic in healthy patients
- Progressive Multifocal Leukoencephalopathy (PML) may develop in Immunocompromised patients
- BK Polyomavirus
