- Evaluation of Older Adult Functioning
- Evaluation of CHF Function (predicts mortality)
III. Contraindications
- Musculoskeletal disorder interfering with ambulation
- Ambulatory aid use
- Resting Oxygen Saturation <90%
- Chest Pain within prior month
- Myocardial Infarction, PTCA, or CABG within 3 months
- Resting Heart Rate <50 or >110 beats per minute
IV. Preparation
- Set-up unobstructed hallway with known distance
- Ideal distance: 50 feet (100 feet round-trip)
- Mark floor with tape signifying start and end
- Place chair at each end of hallway
V. Instructions for patient
- Walk at your own pace and stop to rest if needed
- Cover as much distance as possible
VI. Questionaire for patient
- Rate your Shortness of Breath before and after test
- Symptoms after test
- Chest Pain
- Light Headedness
- Leg Pain
- Other symptoms

- Symptoms in <25% of participants
- Study mean walk distance (n=2117)
