Upper to Lower Segment Ratio

Aka: Upper to Lower Segment Ratio
  1. Indications
    1. Growth Assessment
    2. Differentiates Collagen bone disease (skeletal dysplasia) from primary spine (e.g. Scoliosis)
  2. Technique: Measurement
    1. See Sitting Height for an alternative method of calculating segment heights
    2. Lower segment: Top of Pubic Symphysis to floor
    3. Upper segment: Top of head to top of Pubic Symphysis
      1. Calculation: TotalHeight - LowerSegmentHeight
  3. Interpretation: Normal upper to lower ratio
    1. Birth upper to lower ratio: 1.70 (Greatest ratio)
    2. Postpuberty upper to lower ratio: 0.89 - 0.95
