- Clemastine is an Ethanolamine First Generation Antihistamine with strong Anticholinergic activity
IV. Precautions
- Although FDA approved for children, FDA does not recommend routine Antihistamine use age <4 years
- Deaths have occurred in younger children related to Anticholinergic Toxicity
V. Medications
- Clemastine Fumarate (tablets) at 1.34 mg are equivalent to Clemastine base 1 mg
VI. Dosing: Allergic Rhinitis
- Adult (age >=12 years): 1.34 mg orally twice daily (maximum 8.04 mg/day)
- Child (age 6 to 11 years): 0.67 mg orally twice daily (maximum 4.02 mg/day)
VII. Dosing: Urticaria or Angioedema
- Adult (age >=12 years): 2.68 mg orally two to three times daily (maximum 8.04 mg/day)
- Child (age 6 to 11 years): 1.34 mg orally twice daily (maximum 4.02 mg/day)
