II. Type: Level I Trauma Center

  1. Comprehensive regional resource of tertiary Trauma care
    1. Provides total care for every injury aspect (including prevention and rehabilitation)
  2. Manages all injury levels regardless of severity (meets an annual minimum of severely injured patients)
  3. All specialties and services are emergently available (including 24-hour in-house general surgery)

III. Type: Level II Trauma Center

  1. Initiates definitive care for all injured patients
  2. Manages most injury levels
    1. Transfer to Level I Trauma Center for certain tertiary level services (e.g. cardiac surgery, microvascular surgery)
  3. Most specialties and services are emergently available (including 24-hour in-house general surgery)

IV. Type: Level III Trauma Center

  1. Provides prompt assessment, Resuscitation, Intensive Care, stabilization and emergent surgical intervention of injured patients
  2. Emergency care is always immediately available with prompt general surgery and Anesthesia response
  3. Transfers Trauma patients needing higher level care to Level I or Level II Trauma Centers

V. Type: Level IV Trauma Center

  1. Provides ATLS level emergency care including evaluation, stabilization and diagnostics for injured patients
  2. Basic emergency services and diagnostics are immediately available
  3. Transfers Trauma patients to Level I or Level II Trauma Centers

VI. Type: Level V Trauma Center

  1. Provides ATLS level emergency care including evaluation and stabilization for injured patients
  2. Basic emergency services are immediately available (or after-hour activation protocols are established)
  3. Transfers Trauma patients to Level I to Level III Trauma Centers
