II. Indications

  1. Hypertension
  2. See Thiazide Diuretic

III. Dosing: Adults

  1. Oral (Hypertension or Edema)
    1. Start: 125-250 orally daily or divided twice daily
    2. Maximum: 500 mg orally twice daily
  2. Intravenous (Edema)
    1. IV Chlorothiazide is the only intravenous Thiazide Diuretic
    2. Dose: 0.5 to 1 mg IV daily to twice daily

IV. Pharmacokinetics

  1. Onset of activity <2 hours
  2. Duration: 6 to 12 hours

VII. Safety

  1. Pregnancy Category C
    1. Pregnancy Category D if used for Pregnancy Induced Hypertension
