- Criteria
- Major
- Invasive Mechanical Ventilation
- Septic Shock with Vasopressors required
- Minor
- BUN >20 mg/dl
- Confusion or Disorientation
- Hypotension requiring aggressive fluid Resuscitation
- Hypothermia with core Temperature <96.8 F
- Leukopenia with White Blood Cell Count <4000 per mm3
- Multilobar infiltrates
- PaO2 to FIO2 ratio <250
- Respiratory Rate >30 breaths/min
- Thrombocytopenia with Platelet Count <100,000 per mm3
- Interpretation
- Overall Major and Minor Criteria
- ICU bed required if any major criteria is present
- Consider ICU bed if any minor criteria present
- Minor Criteria
- Minor score >3 is associated with a 44.1% chance of requiring an ICU admission
- Minor score 3 or higher is associated with 38.7% chance of needing Mechanical Ventilation or Vasopressors
