Pectus Excavatum

    2. Gender predominance: Boys (3:1 ratio)

      1. Example: Cobbler's Chest (shoe pressed against chest)

  4. Pathophysiology
    1. Deformed lower costal cartilages
    2. Results in retraction of chest wall toward spine
      1. Inferior Sternum
      2. Xiphoid process
  5. Signs
    1. Opposite of Pectus Carinatum
    2. Mild: Oval pit near infrasternal notch
    3. Severe: Sinking of entire lower Sternum
  6. Complications
    1. Restrictive Lung Disease in severe cases

Congenital pectus excavatum (C0016842)

Definition (MSHCZE) vrozená vada, při níž je přední stěna hrudníku vtažena dovnitř (trychtýřovitě, též pectus infundibuliforme) s možným ovlivněním činnosti srdce a plic. Léčí se dechovými cvičeními, ev. chirurgicky. (cit. Velký lékařský slovník online, 2013 http://lekarske.slovniky.cz/ )
Definition (MSH) A developmental anomaly in which the lower sternum is posteriorly dislocated and concavely deformed, resulting in a funnel-shaped thorax.
