- Flumist was previously thought to have higher efficacy than the injection and was preferred ages 2-8 years

- Contraindications
- Includes Influenza Vaccine Contraindications (including severe egg allergy)
- Pregnancy
- Concurrent Aspirin therapy in age under 18 years (Reye's Syndrome Risk)
- Recurrent Wheezing or Asthma (esp. if age 2-4 years old)
- Immunocompromised (any cause) or close contacts with severe immunosuppression
- Chronic disease (lung, cardiac, renal, liver, neurologic, hematologic, metabolic)
- Exercise caution in severe congestion or acute illness
- Asplenia (anatomic or functional)
- Cochlear Implant
- Influenza antiviral medications within prior 48 hours
- Preparation
- Quadrivalent Vaccine only as of 2013 (covers an additional B strain)

- Timing
- Same as for TIV Vaccine
- May be given as early as July
- Dose
- One half vial in each nostril
- Divider is removed after first half is instilled
- Indications for a second dose
- First Immunization season
- Give second dose before December and at least 28 days after the first
- Safety
- Contains no thimerosol
- Efficacy
- Efficacy expected to be equivalent to inactivated Vaccine against strains in 2019
