- Foods that are encouraged
- Fruits and vegetables (4.5 cups or more per day)
- Fruits: 4-5 servings daily
- Vegetables: 4-5 servings daily
- Whole grains or Fiber: 6-8 servings daily
- Nuts, seeds or beans 4-5 servings daily
- Dairy (low fat): 2-3 servings daily
- Lean Meat: 2 servings daily
- Fish (preferably oily fish): 2 or more 3.5 oz servings per week
- Foods to limit
- Fat or oil 2-3 servings daily (<6% of daily calories is ideal)
- Red meat (limit to <3 oz up to 3 times weekly)
- Low Cholesterol intake (<150 mg daily is ideal)
- Low Sodium intake (<2.4 grams daily)
- Sweets: <5 servings per week
- Sweetened beverages <450 calories and <36 oz per week

- Magnesium 500 mg daily (41 meq/day)
- Potassium 4700 mg daily (120 meq/day)
