II. Indications

  1. Sepsis and its prognosis (alternative to SIRS Criteria)

III. Criteria: One point assigned for each of 3 positive criteria

  1. Respiratory Rate >22 breaths/min
  2. Systolic Blood Pressure <100 mmHg
  3. Altered Mental Status

IV. Interpretation

  1. qSOFA Score 2 consistent wth Sepsis (if infectious source)
  2. qSOFA Score <2 is associated with a mortality of 3%, compared with 24% mortality for score of 2-3
  3. Prediction of in-hospital mortality
    1. Test Sensitivity: 70%
    2. Test Specificity: 80%

V. Precautions

  1. qSOFA Score alone has inadequate Test Sensitivity in Sepsis
    1. Positive qSOFA Score should prompt aggressive Resuscitation for Sepsis
    2. Negative qSOFA Score and a suspicion for Sepsis, should prompt complete SOFA Score calculation
